News Content

Content Created for Daily Newscasts and News Coverage during TV Specials and Weekly Shows

OVERVIEW

Working in the TV News Industry is a very fast paced and every changing environment. Whether it is the Breaking News that can happen in an instant, to the weekly shows do ne live, to the pre-recorded interviews and weekly content that is put out on the regular, there is always something happening!

In addition to the hard and serious stories that are reported each day, I learned more about the weekly content that is produced weekly, and how that impacts members of the community as it provides them with important information on various topics, events, and information they need for their own personal reasons.

STATION PROMOTION

An important aspect I learned in TV news is not only promoting the content that you air, but also promoting your station as a whole. You want to give people a reason to watch and connect with them. At WFRV-TV Local 5 News our motto was: “Your Stories. Our Community.” This was our way of saying to the audience that we are one community sharing stories with each other. This Translated into on air Promotional Content as well.

TV Specials and Special Coverages

A big aspect of working in Local Media Markets is promoting Station Content and TV Specials. I had the opportunity to not only promote events and shows our station was a part of, but also showcase our station’s involvement in these events through on air Proof of Performances (POP).

This involved various events such as:

  • The Appleton Flag Day Parade
  • 4th of July Fireworks (Coverage in Green Bay, Neenah, Manitowoc, and Oshkosh)
  • WFRV Day at the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders
  • The Anniversary of D-Day
  • Downtown Appleton’s Christmas Parade
  • Coverage for the 2024 General Election
